You can also use a clear furniture varnish when the wood begins to lose its shine. Don't forget to protect your surfaces from coasters, candlesticks or any decorative objects that could cause permanent rings and scratches on the varnished surface. If you spill liquid, such as water, on your furniture, wipe it up immediately to prevent the wood from soaking.
